While in Rome (1836-1837) during the early days of conversion to the Catholic faith, Cornelia visited and prayed at the church of S. Ignacio and at the altar of St. Aloysius Gongozga she placed her son, Mercer (then 3 or 4 years of age ) under the protection of this young Jesuit saint.
